Poetry
After the dawn prayer the yard is still wet.
The sandals stand in crooked rows,
like our intentions,
which need straightening every day.
The teacher opens the book,
his voice low but carrying.
We copy down the meanings
with pencils going blunt.
Outside, the sun climbs slowly.
Nothing is in a hurry,
for what lies far
is reached by keeping on.
